Today, Gilan is protesting

Today, a civic protest has been called to counter the removal of the monument near the city park.

The change of September's location “to the soldiers of Rame” in Gjilan has largely disturbed the citizens of Gjilan, as this September has identified the city for decades and has become part of the collective memory of the gnjilans.

According to organisers, so far more than 380 signatures of citizens have been collected that sought not to change the location of the sculpture, as the sculpture movement several metres higher is unreasonable and denigrates this cultural monument.

“Why should sculptures be moved when there are sufficient spaces in the city, in which we can all accommodate? This September only makes sense where it used to be. Gjilanians have learned to assist the city centre with this beautifully worked September. We have to preserve her resistance for years, share her with others whatever her story is. But above all, her attitude at that point is the reference way of her story that we shouldn't have changed. Sculpture has aesthetic and artistic power, and in content reflects modernism by reflecting a universal character, just as many deserved artists have appreciated. It's important to understand that we respect and enjoy the decision on the behavior of Idriz Sefer's sculpture, so we suggest that this sculpture of tʹBAR's is a merit place, not the substitute of the old sculpture. Here both sculptures are required to have a merity place without damaging one another. We demand that such very important decisions be held public debate and that citizens' voices be placed. We invite you to raise your voice and invite the municipality of Gjilan to reflect”, said the organisers' response.

The protest begins at 2: 00 p.m., the location where the memorial was removed near the city park.
