“We attach great importance to the joint steps Turkey and Russia will take around defence”, Erdogan has said, just hours after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at their joint meeting in Sochi.
Turkey has recently agreed to buy the missile defence system, S-400, which NATO has said cannot integrate into the alliance's defence system.
Even though Turkey confirmed that it will continue with the $2 billion deal, it is not expected that this system will be distributed to Turkey for another two years.
This agreement with Russia could make Ankara subject to US sanctions, which have recently announced certain sanctions for the Russian defence ministry.
