Trade and Industry Minister Bajram Hasani has attended the CEFTA ministers' meeting, held on November 23rd 2017 in Belgrade.
Through a media communique, it becomes known that at this meeting Hasani has presented to those present the pledge and dedication during Kosovo's chairmanship with the CEFTA agreement during 2018.
Hasan has said that CEFTA's chairmanship in 2018 is of particular importance because in essence its activities will be included in priorities that are part of the multi-year agenda and will directly influence the implementation of measures as part of the regional economic zone, as has been concluded at the CEFTA joint meeting in 2016 and confirmed by the prime ministers at the Trite Summit.
He has commented on recent statements of Kosovo's position in CEFTA, and what is his role UNMIK.
“The government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to the bilateral agreement bound between Kosovo and Serbia in 2012 about Kosovo's representation at regional forums. However, there are still difficulties for regional involvement, and especially for Kosovo, since the fair appointment is not used in CEFTA due to the Serbian side's insistence on UNMIK. As a concrete example, there are Staff 6 and Trans Trade in goods going to Kosovo through Serbia”, Hasani has added.
The first of the Ministry of Commerce has estimated it would be wrong if the EU and other interest parties see its declaration and Kosovo's position only from political perspective.
“There is more to take on the economic and trade impact and exclusion of Kosovo in deepening CEFTA efforts. Kosovo has joined the Council for Regional Co-operation (RCC) and the Transport Treaty on its behalf. Just because CEFTA was signed earlier should not be used to penalise Kosovo forever, while new agreements include Kosovo as Kosovo. We remember that the EU is a facilitator and monitoring for the implementation of the bilateral agreement connected between Kosovo and Serbia in 2012 about Kosovo's representation of regional forums, so we expect the EU's ever-increasing commitment and pressure on Serbia in fully respecting this” agreement, Hasani has said.
