Authorities in Kosovo say that to resume the process of this project, the Law for Strategic Investment, adopted earlier this year, must be finalised and implemented.
Trade and Industry Minister Bajram Hasani told Free Europe Radio that they are proceeding with the Law's sublawal acts for strategic investment, which within a long time, this law is functional.
The strategy investment law was passed in early 2017, but no illegal acts were prosecuted. We are making every effort to activate this law. We've made two administrative guidelines, which we've processed in Government. We now lack an administrative instruction and a regulation, and by the end of this year this law will be passed”, Hasani says.
Minister Hasani shows that a proposal has recently been made by the Ministry for Spatial Planning to abolish the decision on compensation for property of owners and interest owners, which is affected by the construction of the tourist centre “Brezovica”.
But, despite that decision, Hasani says that with Brezovica, it could be processed if there are serious investors.
The prime minister has pledged that if we have serious investors at any moment we can bring him back. The purpose of this decision has been to prevent the Government from entering into office, as it has entered close to 26m euros. So, we're left to live the Law for Strategic Investment, as Brezovica is a big project and we expect responsible and serious investors to activate this quo”, Hasani says.
The “Brezovica” tourist complex is one of the biggest tourist potentials Kosovo has, as the centre of summer and winter tourism.
In June of this year, the Government of Kosovo had closed the concession process of the tourist centre “Brezovica” after the French consortium “MDP Consulting Compagnie des Alps” had failed to meet financial closure and secure the necessary means for implementing the first phase for the development of the Brezovica project.
Tourism Association in Kosovo leader Zeqe Ceku tells Radio Free Europe that the “Brezovica” tourist complex has tremendous potential and that the best solution to this asset has been its privatisation.
The root problem has been why Brezotzia has not gone to privatisation, which would be the best solution and within two or three years to proceed with major projects. Since this has not happened and so far the Brezovica project has failed, the situation is now more favourable for this project to be realised through the Law for Strategic Investment, as this law provides opportunity to select serious investors”, Ceku says.
The “Brezovica” tourist complex is located in the northwest part of the Sharr Mountains, in the Shtrpce municipality, this Serb-run municipality.
Brezovica is a popular tourist centre located at a height of 900 to 2,522m, with a space of 2,500 hectares and is away from just 60km from Pristina International Airport.
