Through a Facebook status, Albright said that what they promised was finally accomplished 25 years ago.

She hopes that with his sentence it will begin with another era, that of reconciliation.

This is her post:

Following the murder of thousands of helpless men, women and children in Bosnia, Ratko Mladic ran and hid for many years. Now, he'll spend the rest of his life in prison.

My heart is with the people of Bosnia today, especially with widows and mothers who have seen the verdict. While their loved ones will not return, the justice we have promised some 25 years ago has now come. Justice has been achieved since this day, and the fact that Ratko Mladic has committed war crimes can no longer be discussed. Now, my hope is that this verdict will help in the reconciliation process because reconciliation can come only when collective guilt is repaid and individual guilt is set. If those who committed these crimes are brought to justice, the cycle of atrocities may end.
