Beijing Airport is thought to be the largest in the world, according to Reuters. Beijing's new airport, which will start work in the southern Daxing district in 2019, will serve as a way to cope with the growing air transport needs in China and highlight the country's presence of civilian aviation.
According to the China National Development and Reform Commission, it will become a new base for the Southern and East China airlines. This will put members of the Sky Squad coalition under a roof, allowing for simpler flying connections for passengers.
The architect of the Beijing New Airport Terminal building is the famous Zaha Hadid. The terminal will be filled with civilian gardens and will include separate passenger areas for international flights, but even within the country, creating a more compact building that reduces travel times.
“The overall design symmetry, along with correlated and running forms, creates a fluid composition that alters a evidence of harmony and balance in Chinese landscapes, while the colors and materials of visual language within traditional Chinese culture”, says Zaha Hadid's website.
The design's innovative details within the 700 thousand square metres terminal will include a central node with six points paved with corridors connecting to make navigation easier to terminal. The initial opening phase of the airport will have four tracks, while in the next two phases it will lead to additional areas leading to airport capacity of 100 million passengers a year.
Construction also includes a fast-line railway station so passengers can use it to enter the airport, so the State Council of the People's Republic of China has announced. The new airport will help facilitate travel times, while the Beijing capital International Airport is currently known as the second largest in the world.
