The biggest obstacle on Serbia's path to the European Union is “finding a solution for Kosovo”.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq acknowledged that the solution to the conflict is in Belgrade's interest, and that for that reason he had launched domestic talks.
We've had frozen conflicts for many years. Is it good to have this frozen conflict for the next 50 or 100 years? I don't think so. That's why I started internal discussions”, he declares.
The EU is mediating talks between Serbia and Kosovo on normalising relations, and many in Europe believe Serbia will have to recognise Kosovo's independence before joining the bloc, writes Top Channel.
“With Albanians I think we need a long-term peace agreement for the next 200 years”, Vuciq went on, adding that all sides “will have to make some concessions”.
Vuciq also promised he would take Serbia to the EU and said the fact that Russia is arming the Serbian Army does not threaten that goal.
