The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have released the last bet of Islamic State (ISIS), Raqa, ending the four-month siege of the city, which has so far served as the de facto capital of I SIS in Syria.
Here's what's once left in the capital of Islamic State:
In the centre of the city, the militants' black flags have been torn apart and replaced, the Express broadcasts.
BBC Arabian journalist. Feras Killani explains: “This is the square used by I SIS to remove the heads of prisoners, to crucify bodies and expose their heads. Raqqaa's inhabitants have called it the head of hell. Syrian Democratic Forces killed the last remaining ISIS fighters, who were trying to protect this symbolic area in the self-declared California”.
Backed by the West with air strikes, the fighters were taken four months to declare victory in Raqqa.
Asked if we could say Raqa was completely freed from I SIS, Lukman Khalil of the Syrian Democratic Forces, said: “Almost 99%. No more control zones I SIS inside town”
The battle has devastated nearly every building in the city.
The city's stadium has been the refuge of intelligence operations in Raqqa, according to Cilan.
During the fighting, agreement was reached that ISIS fighters and their families were offered an exit route to leave town.
BBC has seen hundreds of I fighters. SIS leaving Raqa in the dark.
The ISIS may have left this city, but the fight against it continues. /Gazza Express/
