Spain's prime minister has informed Catalonia that they may impose a direct rule in their region.
The prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, said his government had asked the Catalonian regional government to clarify whether he had declared independence.
The move is the first step towards suspending Catalonia's autonomy under the constitution.
Catalonian leaders signed a declaration of independence Tuesday, but stopped implementation to leave space for talks, broadcast Indesksonline.
Spain has been in turmoil since the country's Constitutional Court held referendum on 1 October.
Rajoy accused Catalonas President Carles Puigdemont of creating a willful <x0-compliance” and said he wanted to restore “Security”.
There is an urgent need to end the situation that Catalonia is passing, to turn it into security, calm, and it is wise to do so as soon as possible”.
