A Spanish judge on Monday ordered the two leaders of the pro-independence Catalonia movement to remain in custody on possible charges of the uprising, reports “Deutsche Welle”, Periscopi broadcast.
Jordi Sanchez of the National Catalonje Assembly and Jordi Quixart (highest plan) of the cultural group Omnium pro-independence allegedly urged supporters to block police from carrying out attacks against Catalan leaders.
Spanish Judge Carmen Lamela found that men used websites and social media to organise demonstrations, which became part of a <x0 complex <x0-strateturgy” to push the region's independence-rich region.
In Titter, “Omnium Cultural” expected the arrest of leaders, saying the mobilization against Madrid will continue, “you cannot imprison an entire people”.
Meanwhile, two senior police officers accused of rioting were released on condition they return their passports and agree to appear in court every two weeks. The National Court of Spain launched an investigation into the involvement of four suspects in protests in Barcelona from September 20th to September 21st.
Tensions have escalated since Catalan officials advanced towards a referendum to determine whether Catalonia should pursue independence from Spain. However, prior to the controversial vote, Spain's Constitutional Court considered the referendum illegal.
A week after the vote, Catalan leaders said approximately 90 per cent of the vote was in favour of Barcelona, which declared independence for the Catalonian region./Periscopi/
