The widow of an American soldier has claimed that President Donald Trump did not bear her husband's name when she telephoned him to offer his condolences.
Myesia Johnson, wife of the late Sergeant David Johnson, told ABC News that the president's impasse during the conversation had hurt her feelings.
But Trump dismissed the charge by saying he had used the name of Sergeant Johnson “without hesitation” and named the conversation with the lady as the highly respectable “”.
Sergeant Johnson was killed in an attack by Islamic militants in Niger earlier this month.
The White House chief's call to express condolences received the first headlines of online newspapers and media when Democrat Congressman Frederica Wilson, who was with the deceased's family during the conversation, accused him of insensibility.
Myesia Johnson confirmed Wilson's statement that Trump had told him that his husband knew what he expected when he signed the firm to join the army.
The President said he knew what he was waiting for, but that hurts. It made me cry because I was very irritated with the tone of his voice and the way he said it, the soldier's widow said it.
“He had the report ahead for my husband and after he said his name got stuck trying to recall the surname”, she said.
