Females who drink paracetamol during pregnancy may increase the risk of their child suffering from asthma. The danger is even greater if Mother uses paracetamol whenever she feels bad.
More than 114 thousand children were monitored during a study conducted by University of Bristol in Britain, where 5.7% of them had suffered astma disease since the age of 3 and 5.1% since the age of seven.
Mothers of the first group admitted that they had received more than 50 times paracetamol during pregnancy. Mothers of the second group claimed that they had consumed nearly 25 times paracetamol during this stage.
Paracetamol is widely used by pregnant women to prevent pain, reduce temperature, or flu. Doctors say that asthma is caused by children more by the effect of the medicine than by the medical condition that the mother may have had when she took this drug.
Previous studies have also been linked to paracetamol used by pregnant mothers and asthma. But this is the first study of such sizes.
