North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's younger sister attended a key meeting of the country's ruling party on Saturday. According to experts, publishing the image of 28-year-old Kim Yo Jong, in the highest decision-making body of the secret state, is a sign that the new leader is further tightening his control in the country, drawing his most important people near the centre of power.
Kim Yo Jong grew up in North Korean politics at an unprecedented pace, unlike her aunt, who was promoted to politics only in 2012, after serving more than three decades in the party. Kim Yo Jong ranks as the second political woman in a patriarchal country like North Korea. The leader's younger sister is considered one of the main policymakers in the country.
Its official profile has been growing since 2014, when it became deputy director of the Department of Propaganda and Operation of the Workers' Party.
Beyond its official rank, Kim Yoong's profile, is a little familiar, as is most Kim Young clan members. According to state media, it is her brother's right arm, where among key tasks, it manages its public developments, routes and logistical needs.
The last public appearance of Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader, was in March 2014.
