A girl originally from Bishop has written us a very significant message for Albanian youth. Her story began in the crucial months of the prom, when her tribe, not she, decided which branch to choose for higher school.
Here's how she sends the message:
Dad and Mom didn't ask me. They were obsessed with the idea that since I was an excellent student, I had to become a doctor. The whole tribe came together and decided for me. I was told I had no choice. So I did, despite the pressure, even though I wanted another branch, and my people organized a party. We got about 100 of us.
Her words take the next rhythm because history changes.
I finished my first year successfully because I was truly good at books. The problem was I didn't want medicine. I had always dreamed of psychology. I have always hated doctors and found it difficult to enter hospitals. Even today. So I decided to quit school. In late June, I met a woman who lived in Italy. She took me away and it turned out my savior. I spent a year off, but then I went to college for psychology. She pays me everything. I'm in my senior year today, and I'm making it all right. I've already received job offers, even writing in a newspaper about children's problems”.
What do her parents think? Here is what she describes:
I can't go home. They think I'm with a guy. They don't believe me. Nobody believes me. My tribe thinks I'm crazy because leaving medicine for psychology and leaving my family behind is a gesture of prostitutes. I can't go back to Albania”
In the end, our daughter promises to write us again, but only when she comes to work to deliver her message.
I promise you I'll start photos from my new job, which will be great. I want to tell all the young people to dare. School is not for money but for giving meaning to life. I'm doing”.
