More than 163 measurable cases have been recorded in Kosovo this year. Infected by measles, it is reported that there are mostly people who have not been vaccinated. Two people have already lost their lives in measles, one 14 - month - old and the other older, about 40 years old.

Kosovo is known as a country where vaccine coverage is too high, more than 95 per cent, respectively.

But despite campaigns and initiatives by the responsible authorities, members of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities have a much lower percentage of vaccine. The data says there are about 3 out of 10 children from these communities that are vaccinated. These people, they make up the 5 percent of the unexplored population.

The National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo, based on international evidence and guidance of the World Health Organization, has developed an operational plan and is taking necessary measures and actions in co-operation with municipal doctors and nurses to save lives, control the constant state of measles and prevent new measles.

This initiative includes house - to - house vaculation, officials say at the National Institute of Public Health.

Otherwise, the fruit vaccine in children applies in two doses. The first dose at age one and the second at age 6.

Kosovo's World Health Organisation Office head Ardita Tahirukaj tells Radio Free Europe that in the situation created with fruit in Kosovo, the recommendation of this organisation is to become intensification of vaccine activities, further explaining what specifically needs to be undertaken.

The “in this created situation must apply a minimum dose for all children aged over 9 months, so it is not expected that children will be 12 months old. All other children in the affected areas are also offered the second dose, and the 6-year-old” is not expected.

The vaccine against fruit given 12 months ago is regarded as dosage Atjezero. They still have to take two routine doses through the regular vaccination program, so in the second year of life and at the age of 6. School age children should be vaccinated as soon as possible”, Tahirukaj explains.

Meanwhile, infected Izet Sadiku tells Radio Free Europe that although after 16 years no measles were presented, while now there are such cases in Kosovo, the epidemiological situation is under control.

The last <x0) has had a measles epidemic. As a result of complications, there have been two cases of death. There have been medical coverage at the clinic, and all necessary therapy has been used in people. We've had large numbers of people infected and this has been new to us since no case was presented many years ago”, Sadiku says.

Based on a study by the World Health Organization and other institutions in recent years, the measles ' disease has been “rived” in Europe, where the number of people infected since 2007 has tripled.

World Health Organization O BSH says anti-fruit vaccines should immediately be added throughout Europe and Central Asia.

There has been a call from a group of people in European countries who have lobbied against the vaccine with fruit vaccines because it is said to cause autism.

But the infected Izet Sadiku says that no study has ever come up with any data based on this vaccine causing disease. He says the vaccine is mandatory and must be carried out.

The “needs to all be covered with vaccines, as the non-exciplification of one community creates preconditions to infect other people. We have a 40-year-old who died of measles, although he was vaccinated, but at this age he's had his immunity and falling into contact with people infected with measles, has brought about the situation we're in where we're in”, Sadiku points out.

Citizens too feel that it is the duty of any parent to vaccinate children with the vaccination calendar and avoid disease and possible epidemics.

That's what Eglantina Kastrati, citizen of Pristina, says:

I think they should be vaccinated because it's better for others. Especially in the light that death cases have already been recorded. I recommend that every parent vaccinate the child because it's very important”.

In contrast, measles are a very contagious and serious disease caused by a virus. The virus is spread through direct contact and through air and can spread especially quickly where the inclusion of routine vaccines has been consistently below 95%, allowing the gradual accumulate of vulnerable individuals.

The disease can be deadly, especially in children and adults with other existing diseases and compromised immune systems.
