Regarding possible developments in each municipality in the country, Indexline has contacted Central Election Commission spokesman Valmir Elesi to learn whether this institution has released any date for holding the runoff.
Elez has claimed that the CEC has indicated that the second round will be held four weeks after 22 October.
The second election round is held four weeks after the first round. So, as the first round is held next Sunday on October 22nd, the second round will take place on November 19th. Under the law, the second round of elections for the Comune Mayor is held if neither of the candidates wins more than 50%, plus a (1) vote in the total number of valid votes cast in that municipality”, Elesi has said.
Elez also explained that the second round is organised for two mayoral candidates who get the most votes.
The runoff then defines even the election winner, the next chairman for four years.
“The CEC organises the second round of the Communist Mayor elections between the two candidates who have won mostly valid votes in the first round. In the second round, the mayor of Komuna is elected the candidate, who wins the majority of votes in this vote around”, has ended Elesi.
