On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted a $4 trillion budget for fiscal year 2018, a step closer to adopting a republican tax cuts law.
The draft was adopted by a small margin of votes, 216 by 212; all democratic lawmakers voted against it, as did 20 republics, VoA reports.
This showed that even among the Republicans there have been doubts about the tax law.
The approval of the budget in the House of Representatives paves the way for the adoption of the tax law in the Senate, even though a decision remains to be made regarding some difficult related issues.
The budget approval is a victory for President Donald Trump and the republican leaders in Congress, who have pledged to rewrite the tax law -- an attempt that has failed to be realised in more than four decades.
The republican tax plan is opposed by the Democrats, who say it would benefit mainly rich and corporations.
