An international team of researchers, led by scientists from Queenhouse University in Belfast, is using powerful telescopes to study the chemical composition of the small rock object, which was identified for the first time through a telescope in Hawaii last week, reports “Disclose”, broadcast Periscope.

Professor Alan Fitzsimmons, from the Queens University School of Mathematics and Physics, described the discovery as a “dating down the back”.

Commenting on the project, he said: “From Wednesday this week became almost certain that this object was foreign to our solar system. ”

“As soon as we started studying it that night through the Herschel telescope in the Canary Islands, then Thursday night through the giant telescope in Chile”, he added.

The first findings on the fast - moving object, named A/2017 U1, indicate that it is already returning to the stars after flying near the sun last month.

It is also believed that it has passed through the galaxy for millions or even billions of years before it enters our solar system by chance. It was thought to have been thrown out of another star system during the formation of a planet.. /Periscopi/
