The blast may have been a suicide attack, a police official told the Voice of America. The evidence said the blast occurred during a traffic jam.
An American Voice reporter at the scene counted at least 25 troops to be transported in ambulances.
The journalist said buildings around the area were destroyed by the blast, and dozens of cars continue to burn in the streets.
