New Special Representative's appointment for Kosovo, in its mandate, even support Kosovo-Serbia dialogue

The European Council appointed Dirk Schuel as the European Union's new Special Representative for Kosovo.
Its “mandate focuses on promoting a stable, democratic and multiethnic Kosovo, supporting its European perspective through public communication and informationally targeted”, the EC said.
The main responsibilities of the new Special Representative include “the promotion of progress on political, economic and security priorities, the contribution to the consolidation of human rights, the rule of law and protection of minorities, as well as promotion of the overall political co-ordination of the EU to ensure a consistent and visible presence”, the EC said.
His mandate, as said in the Council's announcement, includes supporting dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Moreover, the mandate includes providing local political guidelines for the European Union's Mission for Rule of Law in Kosovo ( EULEX Kosovo) and support of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue to promote regional stability and good neighbourly relations”, the report said.
Dirk Schubel is a German citizen and a senior European diplomat with extensive experience in a series of leading positions within the European Ministry for Foreign Action (EEAS), the European Commission, and has worked at Germany's Foreign Ministry. It currently serves as head of the Russia Division at EEAS./ Periscope.
