Kosovo sends letter to Kallas: We are concerned about the EU's limited response, following Paunovic's statements

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Glauk Konjufca has sent a letter to European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Kaya Kallas, demanding a stronger EU reaction to Serbian Minister Snezana Paunovic's statement, which said if it were in place of Slobodan Milosevic in 1998 it would have cleared Kosovo ethnically.
In his letter, Konjufca describes the statement as a deliberate"of war crimes", inciting hatred and threatening peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
According to him, the rhetoric of a minister in office cannot be treated as a common gaffe, as its interview was, as he said, filled with revisionist and hostile content that undermines dialogue for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
Konjufca also expressed disappointment with the European Union's initial response, saying it was delayed and limited.
A clearer and more powerful public response is necessary to support the Union's commitment to preventing cruel crimes, rejecting hate speech, and combating historic revisionism", it says on paper.
In the document sent to Kallas, incumbent Foreign Minister requests that the EU:
to publicly and clearly condemn the statement by Minister Paunovic; to remind Serbian authorities that such statements are incompatible with European values and the membership process; to address this issue in the context of political dialogue with Serbia and in the process of European integration.
Konjufca has also asked Kallas for a meeting or phone conversation as soon as possible to discuss the matter.
At the end of the letter, he re-exemplifies that Kosovo remains committed to multiethnic democracy, rule of law and protection of the rights of all communities, stressing that ethnic cleansing and collective punishment are unacceptable in any form.
