Fires in France: Macro assembles crisis cabinet

A new heat wave is expected to further make it difficult for firefighters to control the flames, located about 15 miles [15 km] from the city. Bordo Mayor Thomas Casenat said there are currently no plans to evacuate the town's some 850 thousand inhabitants, the BBC reports.

During the past week, fires have engulfed several European countries, especially France and Spain. According to authorities, more than 330 thousand people have been evacuated to both countries because of the spread of flames.

President Macron declared on Saturday that France would be “reconstruction to” affected areas, and that the government would be close to citizens “as long as it is necessary”.

Meteorological forecasts warn that from Tuesday temperatures in some regions of France could reach as much as 40 degrees Celsius, increasing the risk of further fire spreading.
