A severe earthquake strikes Tokyo. What was the magnitude?

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's Chiba Prefecture on Friday, shaking areas near Tokyo, but did not provide tsunami warnings, according to Japanese authorities and the US Geological Service.
Japan's Meteorological Agency said the earthquake occurred at 12:46 local time with its own episode in Chiba Prefecture at a depth of about 50km, local media reported.
The agency recorded maximum seismic intensity of 4 on Japan's seven-level level and said there was no danger for a tsunami.
The US Geological Service also reported that the quake was measuring 5.8, placing the stadium about four kilometers southeast of Yokoshiba at a depth of 56km.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
