German ambassador meets media, civil society representatives before Kosovo elections

Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Rainer Rudolph, has held a meeting with representatives of media and civil society organisations, where the focus of discussions was on the future elections and the role independent institutions play in ensuring a democratic, transparent and reliable election process.

According to the German Embassy, the meeting served as an opportunity to exchange views regarding the challenges and responsibilities media and civil society organisations have in electoral periods, when precise citizens' information and monitoring democratic processes take on special importance.

The embassy's announcement reportedly that free media and civil society constitute fundamental pillars of a functional democracy, as they play a key role in promoting transparency, accountability and supervision of public institutions. /Periscope
