“Lmosh on election threshold”, opposition and economists criticise 100 euro extensions

The Kosovo government has approved the decision to share 100 euro extensions for children, students, pensioners and private sector workers, as well as increased support for the lehoat.

This decision has been rejected by the opposition and economic connoisseur, who have described it as acting in electoral context and not long-term solutions to the citizens' economic situation.

Former Kosovo Democratic Party and MP candidate Artan Behrami said the government's decision is an attempt to buy a vote through the distribution of financial means.

“Yes, the largest aid for Kosovo citizens would be if Albin Kurti increased public sector wages, as well as took initiative to revive the private sector. But what does he do? He does the opposite: he gives alms and in return seeks votes. So the Government of the Republic of Kosovo's decision is a platform for vote buying and according to the Republic of Kosovo Criminal Code, this is a decision both illegal and punishable. However, citizens of the Republic of Kosovo must receive that money, but do not give the vote to this man, who has already transformed the lure on the eve of elections and until elections he has always injected his fears”, Beram said.

He added that the Government is operating with, as he said, “2 political platform”.

So Mr. Kurti operates with two platforms: the first platform is to sow fear, uncertainty, chaos and crisis; and on the other hand, he offers charity through the distribution of money. Citizens of the Republic of Kosovo should know that in the last two years alone, with the money that Albin Kurti has distributed to citizens, Kosovo could build a new thermal power plant and be independent from Serbia for electricity. So he doesn't know the government; every decision is ad-hoc, every decision is quick and every decision has only one expiration: the election outcome, and then his government” ends, he said.

Criticism to this decision also had former Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and MP candidate Besnik Tahiri, who for Online Economy, said the government for years has discriminated against the private sector and is now trying to gain political support through these payments.

This government decision is reflecting successive mistakes this Government makes for categories that you're helping with 100 euros today. The private sector was seen from this government as an enemy. The discrimination between an official working in the ministry or in the municipality and a worker working in the builder or in gastronomies has been worse than in Africa. This decision is an election campaign. This decision has only one purpose: to change the mind of a society, a people, and in particular one voter, so that through these means this government can get a vote of”, Tahiri said.

According to him, tools should be invested in job creation and long-term social reform.

What it would have had to be is that 65m euros were earmarked for job creation. A job is made up of between 8 and 10 thousand euros, with that amount being able to create over 60,000 jobs. He's had a meal to change a mother, and all educators, professors, people who can't reach 15 years of practice, after full retirement. It had to be the KLA veterans not to ask me again to return to the veteran's pension. Of course people are happy for 100 euros, because prices have grown and life has become more difficult, but when they know humanity, and humanity is not to ease poverty, but to get votes 20 days before the elections”, he said.

Economist Union Mustafa has also singled out the decision as illegal and short-term in improving the economic situation.

The first “is just an illegal decision; a public money which is not planned in the budget law is illegal and seriously damages state legal infrastructure, considering when we now have even a government in office. Second, it proves that the family economies and citizens of this country are deepening in extreme poverty, and that the Government itself is testifying. In addition to the local and international reports, which this same government is failing to comply with that Kosovo is in poor condition, these themselves are convincing citizens who are in extreme poverty and are facing unaffordable economic and social challenges”, Mustafa said.

He said these vehicles would end up in consumption and would not affect the country's economic development.

“These problems are not solved by the current 100 euros, because all of this will go into consumption, there will be increased import and deepening poverty and conditions which have become unaffordable. It is the third decision to be made on the eve of elections, where 100 million and something is handed over due to elections. This money could be spent in many other forms, but this government has apparently abandoned the solution to the permanent problems of citizens. In fact, it's making a massive purchase of the vote through alms”, Mustafa added.

On Friday, the government in office has decided to share 100 euros for pensioners, children, for non-public sector employees and active students.

Prime Minister-in-chief Albin Kurti presented the package at today's meeting.

And our government can't stand back. I've asked the finance minister to use every budgetary opportunity to design a package for confronting inflation, as we have pledged. Citizens of the Republic should know and always count on our government and their government never leave alone, despite obstacles or blockades that others can set in our path. So today, I have the pleasure of informing you of the package of confronting the 2.0 inflation that we have designed and will adopt today the following measures: once-in-a-day support of 100 euros per child, 100 euros for non-public sector employees, 100 euros for active students”, he said.

Also at the same meeting, the incumbent Government has made a decision to increase leho additions from 325 euros earlier to 500 euros.

So has the prime minister in office, Albin Kurti.

“The great news I want to share with you today is that this month we're going to grow the additions for the lecho. Since with past governments the additions for the ledula were zero euros, almost this country had no lehoya mothers, for the first time in our government we started them paying out 170 euros for six months for unemployed lehons and three months for those employed on payments they already receive under the labour law”.

“As if last year even this May we are increasing the additions to the lecho as we promised from 325, 9 euros a month to 500 euros a month, what a minimum wage. In other words, we are not expecting July”, he said.
