Hormuz Strait under pressure: U.S. Secretary of State talks about emergency scenarios

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called for the drafting of an emergency plan for Hormuz Strait, if Iran decides to continue the blockade of this strategic maritime corridor.
“What if Iran decides to control the strait and set the transfer fees?” asked Rubio, stressing that in such a situation immediate action should be taken, news broadcast.net.
He added that all affected countries would have to examine emergency scenarios, and that he has received numerous support claims for this approach during his meetings within NATO in Sweden. Rubio did not rule out the possibility that some NATO member states contribute to an intervention, even though he did not consider this a direct alliance mission.
Historically, NATO European countries have rejected former President Donald Trump's requests for direct intervention in the case of Iranian blockade, preferring an approach that supports only ensuring navigation if a peaceful agreement is reached.
Rubio also noted that some progress has been made in talks with Iran, but a final agreement has not yet been reached. He stressed that the United States has other options at the table, giving priority to a diplomatic solution, but not excluding intervention in the event of negotiations fail.
