Germany Embassy: Sadly, you are wasting precious time with new choices

The Kosovo Assembly has been disbanded on Tuesday 28 April, as this Assembly has failed to elect the new president of the state with a five-year mandate.
On March 5th, the Vetevendosje Movement attempted to elect the president by proposing candidates for President Glauk Konjufka, later as counter-Candidate Fatmire Mulhrama Kolcaku. This session did not have a quorum, imperiling the vote, and shortly after 5 March, President Osmani scattered the Parliament through a decree.
This decree was sent from the VV to the Constitutional Court, which gave the Assembly 34 days to elect the president, this unsuccessful deadline, as there was no solution even after 34 days.
Despite meetings of attempts, political parties in the country failed to find a candidate for president who would get the necessary 80 votes.
On April 28th, after the candidate's vote, Feride Rushiti and Hatage Hoxha, failed, the Assembly eventually split up, bringing the country back to extraordinary elections.
Regarding the situation created in the country, with institutions failing to carry out their mandate, the German Embassy in Kosovo has spoken of news.
Reconfirming the friendship between the two countries, from this embassy have said that on the road to Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration, there must be mandated institutions.
“Germania remains a close friend and partner dedicated to Kosovo on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration. Progress on this road requires fully mandated, functional, sustainable and effective body institutions”, these embassys have said.
In addition, the German Embassy has expressed regret over the situation Kosovo is in.
In this context, it is unfortunate that precious time is being lost due to another round of parliamentary elections. Kosovo will get elections again on June 7th, the third parliamentary since February 9th 2025. U.d. President Albulen Haxhiu scheduled June 7th after his meeting last week with representatives of political parties in the country.
Almost unanimously, as political parties rarely were the date for the election to be June 7th for the Central Election Commission to have the time needed to prepare.
On February 9th, despite the elections being held, elected MPs failed to reach over 50 sessions to elect the speaker of the Parliament and the deputy speaker. After being elected Dimal Basha, the VV that came first in that election failed to form Government by disseminating the Parliament.
This situation forced the country to hold elections again on December 28th, which drew absolute winner Albin Kurtin and VV by over 51%. Despite having 66 deputies along with minorities and managed to form the Parliament and Government, they failed to elect the president.
The upcoming elections will be held June 7th in an accelerated situation. The CEC has only started preparations for these elections, which are expected to bring a solution to the country. /Periscope
