(a month ago)Executive Committee U n The EFA held this Wednesday the next meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, where several important decisions were made regarding the development of European football in the coming years.
One of the main decisions was the principle approval of the new format for the competitions of European nationals to be implemented after the U. EFA Euro 2028. UEFA Nations League 2028/2029 will pass from four to three leagues, with 18 teams. Each league will consist of three groups of six teams that will play six matches against five different opponents. With 55 teams participating, League C will have a team of 7 teams.
Even European electorates will have a level structure: League 1, consisting of 36 A and B League teams of Nations League, and League 2, consisting of 18 (or 19) remaining teams.
In League 1, there will be three teams of 12 teams, divided into three vases with 12 teams. Each national will play six matches, within or outside the field, against six different opponents, two for each vase, in a form similar to UEFA clubs' competitions.
League 2 will be held the same as Nation's League C League, with three groups out of six teams (or a group of seven).
The final tour team will also participate in European preliminary, with targets linked to their deployment in the next edition of Nations League.
The teams ranked best in each league group 1 will qualify directly on the final tour, while the remaining seats will be determined through a play-off system, which will guarantee fair access to the league team 2.
The concept will be further detailed in the coming months before final approval at the upcoming meeting of the Executive Committee in September.
Also, the Executive Committee approved the expansion of the Observation Programme for walking Tributes for the 2026/27 season.
Federations that have participated so far in this programme will be able to use the tributaries on foot in all UEFA competitions, including the qualifying rounds of clubs. So far, the programme was limited only to guys' club competitions.
Federations that have not been part of the programme but have used tribuna on foot at their elite championship for at least three years can apply for their use in all U competitions EFA starting September 1st 2026.
Any other federation that wants to present the triboons on foot could start preparations before the new U-Sadium Infrastructure Infrastructural comes into effect EFA for season 2027/28. The regulation will include minimal mandatory standards, which will be adopted after further consultations with federations, clubs, leagues and fan organisations during the upcoming season.
Several new U regulations were also approved at the meeting EFA for 2026/2028, including regulations for the European Championship 2026-2028, club licensing and financial sustainability regulation (2026), UEFA Supercup 2026, U-19 European Introsting Championship 2026-2027, amendments to the regulation for the implementation of the UEFA Statut, UEFA disciplinary regulation EFA (edition 2026), U organisational regulation EFA (edition 2026, U equipment regulation EFA (edition 2026), Club License Act for European Women's Football Contests (Edition 2026).
