Dutch hospital quarantines 12 people because of violation of the hantavirus protocol

A Dutch hospital placed 12 staff members in quarantine on a precaution after a patient's blood and urine were treated without respect for strict protocols.
Hospital staff members will be quarantined for six weeks, Radboudumc hospital said in the town of Niymen, adding that the risk of infection was very low and that the care of patients continued without interruption, Reuters reported, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
The World Health Organization increased the number of confirmed cases of the species of Andes innsite to nine, two more than a day ago. It did not identify the new cases, but the number followed positive tests reports for a Spanish and an American citizen.
International medical officials are working to contain the outbreak of the virus, which hit the luxury cruise ship Hondius, which has left for the Netherlands after dismissing its last passengers in the Spanish Canary Islands.
The virus can be deadly, although authorities say it is not easily spread from person to person, so it poses little danger to an epidemic.
Radboudmec Hospital accepted the patient, a passenger from the ship, on May 7th.
“We will carefully investigate the course of events to learn from this so that it can be prevented in the future”, said Bertine Lauuis, chairman of the executive board of the hospital.
