(a month ago)A delegation of American congressers, consisting of Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam, will remain for official visit to Kosovo and the Presevo Valley from 26 May to 28 May, at the request of the organisation “Albians for America”.
According to the organisation's announcement, during its stay in Kosovo, congressers will hold meetings with representatives of state institutions, international security authorities, local leaders, as well as representatives of Albanians in the Presevo Valley.
“Visita is aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States of America and Kosovo, discussing regional security developments, as well as supporting the rights and position of Albanians in the region”, said the organisation's “Albians for America” announcement.
Within the framework of their agenda in Kosovo, the delegation will also hold meetings with American and international security authorities at Camp Bondsteel, the main base of American forces in Kosovo. Also, meetings with representatives of civil society and media have been envisioned.
“During their stay in Kosovo, congressers will hold meetings with Kosovo state institutions, international security authorities, local leaders and representatives of Albanians in the Presevo Valley”, the report further said.
After the visit to Kosovo, American congressers will stay in the Presevo Valley, where they will meet with the Albanian National Council, Albanian political representatives and mayors of Presevo and Bujanoc municipalities.
“Fokus of meetings in the Presevo Valley will be the rights of Albanians, political developments and challenges facing the Albanian community in this part of the region”, become known in the communiqué.
The visit is held in a period of increased commitment by the US Congress to security and stability in the Western Balkans, as well as to advancing Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration.
By contrast, conventioner Keith Self, in January of this year, had presented a legal initiative in connection with the situation of Albanians in the Presevo Valley. The act for assessing discrimination in the Presevo Valley aims to address the Serbian authorities' approach to Albanians' rights in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja.
Also, just three weeks ago, Self, along with congressers Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, presented a resolution in the House of Representatives that supports Kosovo's integration into NATO.
According to the announcement released by the US congressional office, “resolta underscores that Kosovo's functional democracy, civil control over security institutions, and the multiethnic character of the state constitutes a solid basis for membership in the alliance”.
“Albanians for America” has expressed gratitude for the continued engagement of congressers Keith Self and Suhas Submaniyam in support of the Albanian issue, regional stability and partnership between the American and Albanian people.
