Chief NATO welcomes Trump's decision on 5,000 additional troops in Poland

President Donald Trump said the US will send another 5,000 additional troops to Poland, a week after the Pentagon cancelled a planned 4,000-strong deployment to the country.
Secretary - General NATO, Mark Rutte, welcomed the decision before a meeting of foreign ministers in Sweden, adding that the road to less-dependent US Europe “will continue”.
Writing on his Social Truth platform Thursday, Trump said the decision was based on US relations with Polish President Carol Nawrocki, whom he supported during presidential elections last year.
He gave no further details whether additional troops were part of the previously planned delocation or another operation.
The White House has signaled in recent weeks that it aims to reduce the overall level of troops in Europe as part of the “America First” agenda.
Marco Rubio is expected to seek greater division of the burden by NATO partners in Friday's Helsingborg talks.
Speaking to reporters Friday morning, he said: “The president's views are sincerely disappointed at some of our NATO allies and their response to our operations in the Middle East.
There are other areas where we continue co-operation”, he added, citing the announcement of Poland. / Periscope/
