Austria expels three Russian diplomats following spying signals

Austria has declared three Russian diplomats persona non grata due to a <x0pyli with antenna” on the roofs of diplomatic buildings that can be used for spying, the Austrian government reported on Monday (04.05.2026).

“It is unacceptable for diplomatic immunity to be used to perform spying”, Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reissinger stated in a statement confirming that the three diplomats had already left the country.

So far, there are 14 Russian diplomats Austria has expelled since 2020.
