The announcement was made by the White House. If you pass the vote in the Senate, Eric Wendt will be the successor of Ambassador Yuri Kim, who left Albania in 2023. Two years ago, the appointment of diplomat David J. Kostalancik for the post of US Ambassador to Albania, after not being voted by several Republican senators. Even a single senator can block an appointment.
Blocking candidacy that needs confirmation from the Senate is a common practice of political struggle in Washington.
Who is Eric Wendt?
Wendy served as an active officer in the American Army since 1986. Since 1991 it has been part of special forces such as the “Gren Beret”, building a strong profile as special operations officer.
Following the 11 September attacks, he has participated in several key international missions. It served in Indonesia as leader of the US Pacific Command team, as well as several military operations, including Operation “Sustainable Freedom” in the Philippines, Operation “Iraqi Freedom” in Iraq and Operation “Sustainable Freedom” in Afghanistan.
In addition to numerous tasks in management structures, he has held important positions, including the role of US Secretary of Defence's chief military assistant. Wendt has commanded at all levels of Special Forces, from small operatives to major regional special operations.
He speaks Arabic and Korean and is praised with a series of international and military decorations, including Germany's Golden Cross of Honor (for serving in Afghanistan), presidential assessment from the Philippines and medals from South Korea, as well as some elite insults such as air strike badge, that of the advanced parachute, badge “Ranger”, that of special forces and combat infantry.
