“I welcome the ceasefire agreement reached overnight, which will bring a moment of relief to the region and the world”, he says, the BBC reports.
We have to do everything we can to support and preserve this truce, turn it into a stable agreement, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz”.
Downing Street announcement says:
The prime minister will travel to the Persian Gulf to meet leaders of countries that have been on the front line and will express his full support for the newly reached ceasefire.
At meetings with regional leaders, it will re-focus the steadfast support of the United Kingdom and the need for a long-term diplomatic solution to ensure that the ceasefire leads to a sustainable agreement.
It will hold talks to ensure that the reopening of the Hormuz Strait remains permanent, with the United Kingdom continuing to lead international efforts. /Periscope
