Thus, as foreign media reports report, Telegrafi conveys, Pentagon's top financial official told lawmakers Wednesday.
As noted further, most of these expenditures are for ammunition, but part of them is for maintenance and replacement of equipment, said Yules “Jay” Hurst in front of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee.
The exact cost of war “has saved lawmakers” and has become increasingly a political issue, while Congress considers President Donald Trump's request for the $1.5 trillion budget protection for fiscal year 2027.
I'm glad you answered that question, because we've been looking for a long time and no one has given us the number”, said representative Adam Smith, the highest Democrat in the commission, in response to Hurst.
According to CNN, thirteen members of the American military service have been killed so far in the war, which is currently subject to a fragile ceasefire.
Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth sharply criticised opposition to Iran's ongoing war during a hearing session in Congress today, describing lawmakers criticising the administration as “the biggest opponents”.
The biggest “Sfida, the biggest opponent we face at this point, are the reckless, impervious words of Congress's Democrats and some Republicans”, Hegseth said at the hearing, which marks the first time he testifies to Congress since the beginning of the war.
He went on to stress that criticism comes as the conflict has reached two months, arguing it has been noticeably shorter than the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam.
