Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Marine Organisation (IMO), said that while the US blockade “appears to be very specific for access to Iranian ports”, there was legally no basis for any place to block the waterway.
“in line with International Law, countries have no right to block an international Strait used for international navigation”, he told reporters at a conference at IMO headquarters in London this afternoon.
Mr. Dominguez also said that although very few ships were passing the tide before the blockade, the last “deadlocking “from US “offers no solution to the crisis we have”.
“2000 sailors cannot cross transit. The global economy continues to be affected and that until the root causes are addressed, all of us still suffer from it”, he said.
“The additional lock does not help in finding a solution to the conflict.” He added: “I would ask everyone to play by the rules. ”
