Hungary's next prime minister, Péter Magyar, said the country will again be a strong European and European ally NATO, while pledging to restore its country to Europe.
Magyar was speaking in central Budapest before thousands of supporters after securing a landslide victory over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz Party.
“Hungary will again be a strong ally representing Hungarian interests, because our country's place is in Europe”, Magyar said.
He added that his first trips abroad will be to Warsaw and Vienna, after which he will visit Brussels in an effort to persuade the EU to unblock billions of euros from frozen funds.
“We will bring home EU funds belonging to the Hungarian people”, he said.
To that end, he promised to join the European Public Prosecutor's Office, the body that investigates transnational and complex financial crimes.
“We will restore the control and balance system. We will join the European Public Prosecutor's Office. We guarantee the democratic functioning of our country. ”
The Magyar also called on Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok to resign immediately after he was asked to form a government. He sent the same message to other State leaders appointed by Victor Orbán. During the campaign, Tisza accused these officials of representing party interests.
I call on the president of the Republic to immediately ask the winners to form a government and then leave the post. I call on all dolls who have been in power for the last 16 years to do the same”, he said.
He cited the presidents of Kuria, the Judiciary Office, the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, the State Audition Office, the Authority for Economic Competition and the head of media authority.
Make sure they're gone. Do not wait until we kick out”, Magyar said.
He also praised his party's victory as a historic mandate and called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to refrain from any move that would limit the competencies of the future government.
If a serious decision or question arises about our nation during the transition period, hopefully short, please don't hesitate to call me, you know my phone number. ”
With almost 99% of the votes counted, Tisza is on track to get a comfortable two-thirds majority of 138 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian Parliament.
According to data from the National Election Commission, Victor Orbán's Fidesz could hold 55 seats. And our far right Fatherland movement is on track to enter Parliament as the third party with six seats.
More than 90,000 Hungarians cast their vote at polling stations abroad, while about 224,000 voted elsewhere from their official address. These votes will be counted in the following days, which means it will take a while before 100% of the balloting is counted.
