The Democratic Party of Kosovo has held today the meeting of the Steering Council, where it was discussed the current political developments in the country, the fraught economic situation that citizens, the court process at The Hague, and other important issues.
Within this meeting, the Steering Council has also adopted a Political Declaration, through which the official position of The PDK reports on the main topics that distract the country and citizens.
As for the president's issue, the Steering Council estimates that the PDK has testified to full willingness to contribute to the election of the new president and unblocking the situation, supporting the possibility of a consensual candidate, without any condition or application for involvement in co-government. Despite this constructive approach, however, the lack of political will and institutional seriousness on the part of current power is once again imperiling the election of the new president. As a result, The PDK considers its contribution to this completed process.
Steering Council The PDK has also expressed concern about worsening the economic situation and increasing the cost of living, which is burdening citizens, demanding urgent and concrete measures for economic support.
And also, through this statement, The PDK seeks a fair and impartial final decision for KLA leaders who are being tried in The Hague.
In the Political Declaration of the PDK Steering Council, it is reiterated that domestic party elections should be held during 2026, aimed at strengthening domestic democracy and creating a new ruling alternative.

POLITIC DEATH
• The Steering Council of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, today on April 20th, has held the next meeting, where it has discussed party and political developments, the process in the Specialised Chambers in The Hague, and the process of electing the president of the Republic of Kosovo. The PDK, as a state-building and statehood policy subject, reaffirms its commitment to the defence of constitutional order, institutional stability and democratic functioning of the state.
• The PDK estimates that Kosovo is facing successive political and institutional crises, caused directly by the parliamentary majority, which through continued blockades and lack of state responsibility, is paralysing the normal functioning of institutions, politicising them and undermining civic and state interest.
• The PDK emphasises that the country should not be held hostage by political calculations and narrow party interests. Continued this situation, caused by current power, is harmful and dangerous for democratic and institutional functioning in Kosovo.
• The PDK has proved full willingness to contribute to the election of the new president and unblocking the situation, supporting the possibility of a consensual candidate, without any conditions or demands for involvement in co-governance. To The PDK, institutional stability, has been a matter of principle and state interest, not the subject of political negotiation.
Despite this constructive approach, the lack of political will and institutional seriousness on the part of current power is once again imperiling the election of the new president. As a result, The PDK considers its contribution to the process complete.
• As to the judicial process in The Hague, when the process is already in the final phase, The PDK expresses its expectation and demand that the final decision be fair, impartial and based exclusively on facts and credible evidence, away from any political influence or unilateral perception. The PDK reaffirms its firm conviction in the innocence of KLA leaders and the purity of the liberation war.
• The Democratic Party of Kosovo re-exerts its clear Euro-Atlantic orientation and calls for immediate strengthening of strategic partnership with our allies as guarantees for stability, security and the future of the state.
• The Democratic Party of Kosovo estimates that the economic situation has deteriorated significantly, while citizens are facing affordable increases in the cost of living. For this reason, urgent, concrete and effective measures are required for economic support and relief of the financial burden for citizens.
• Also, the Steering Council re-exemplifies that domestic party elections should be held during 2026, aimed at strengthening domestic democracy, including new political potential and building an advanced ruling alternative.
• The Democratic Party of Kosovo will continue to be a factor of stability, constructive political force and serious alternative to governance of the country.
