OEK urges urgent government action for Kosovo's involvement in regional gas projects

The Kosovo Economic Oda (OEK) has called on the Government of Kosovo to take immediate “steps for the country's inclusion in regional natural gas projects “at a time when the region is entering an important phase of energy transformation”. The recent developments in the region include the agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia regarding the LNG terminal in Krk, as well as the new agreement in Albania on liquid natural gas, supported by the United States, clearly testify that the Western Balkans are being re-established on Europe's energy map. In this context, Kosovo's absence in these initiatives poses a serious risk to energy security and economic competitiveness of the country”, the Economic Oda said.
Meanwhile, its leader, Lulzim Rafuna, said Kosovo does not have the luxury to stay behind, while the region is building energy future infrastructure with the support of the United States of America.
Interdependent on these projects is vital for energy security, economic development and attracting strategic investments”, he said.
OEK stresses that Kosovo's involvement in these projects should be made in full compliance with European Union standards and with the support of international strategic partners, ensuring transparency and open competitive processes.
Kosovo's Economic Oda calls on local institutions “to intensify dialogue with regional and international partners so that Kosovo can ensure an active role at this key moment for the energy future of the region”.
