German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said there are low expectations for weekend talks in Islamabad, Pakistan between the US and Iran.
Speaking in Berlin earlier this morning, Merz said: “I was not surprised by the decision to cut off negotiations in Islamabad. From the beginning, I did not feel that (the conversations) were especially well prepared”.
Merz also hinted that a diplomatic solution would not be a quick process and stressed that economic effects will continue to feel for a while.
This will remain a long-term process and we will continue to feel the consequences of this war for a long time, even after it is completed”, he added.
Merz last week has expressed reservations about the outcome of the talks, saying he thought peace was still far away.
