American expert for the Balkans Edward P. Joseph, has warned that any reduction of the US presence in KFOR would be premature and potentially destabilising for the region.

According to him, although Europe is increasing its defence capacities, it still does not have the level of credibility enjoyed by the United States of America in the Balkans. Joseph stressed that this very credibility remains the key element of maintaining stability in the region.

It in an interview for rel also raised concerns about continued arms growth in Serbia, citing the purchase of Chinese supersonic missiles. According to him, it remains unclear to which threat these weapons are targeted, adding that this trend could increase tensions in the region.

Serbia's continued weapons buildup, including the acquisition of Chinese supersonic missiles, is a serious concern. What threat is intended to fight these missiles?”, he asks.

Joseph also criticised the authorities' reactions in Belgrade to the Joint Security Declaration between Albania, Croatia and Kosovo.

He described these reactions as alarming and exaggerated, suggesting they could be used as justification for increasing weapons and creating an artificial sense of danger within Serbia.

The ongoing and exaggerated <x0-alarms in Belgrade for the Joint Security Declaration between Albania, Croatia and Kosovo are also disturbing, as Belgrade seems to be using it as an excuse to arm and artificially create a sense of danger within the country”.
