The news has been confirmed by Pakistani Prime Minister Shebas Sharif, who has held separate meetings with representatives of both delegations participating in the talks.
While Skynews has reportedly started meeting between two representatives of the two states.
“at the start of negotiations in Islamabad, the prime minister met with J.D. Vance”, the US vice president who heads his country's delegation, is said to be officially reporting Sharif's office.
Before the start of talks, which are held in an atmosphere of deep distrust and for which the agenda or (direct or indirect) format has not yet been clearly defined, Sharif also met with the Iranian delegation.
Welcoming the commitment of both sides for constructive dialogue, he voiced hope that these negotiations would lead to a lasting peace in the region.
The conflict, launched on February 28th with the Israeli-American offensive against Iran, has so far caused thousands of casualties, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, while affecting the global economy.
Pakistan has engaged a team of experts who will contribute to discussions on maritime traffic, nuclear issues and other key topics. The meeting is being closely attended by other international actors who have contributed to diplomatic efforts, including Egypt, Turkey and China, with which Pakistan follows co-ordination.
