US Vice President JD Vance has just left Pakistan, as long and high-risk discussions with Iran did not lead to a peace agreement that would end the war.
Standing next to US special envoy Steve Whitoff, and Trump's groom and White House adviser Jared Kouchner, Vance spoke with members of the media prior to his departure, the BBC reported.
Here are some of the main phrases from the press conference:
He says that after 21 hours of peace talks in Islamabad, the US and Iran have not reached an agreement to end the war
We've had a number of substantial discussions with Iranians, that's the good news. The bad news is that we haven't reached an agreement and I think this is bad news for Iran much more than for the United States of America”, says Vance
“simply couldn't reach a situation where Iranians would accept our terms”, he says.
The vice president also shared his assessment of Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbas Sharif and Fusha's Marshal Asim Munir, and said that “cilatdo shortcomings” he had in the negotiations, “was not due to the Pakistanis, who did a wonderful job”.
It was a brief press conference with only a few questions asked by journalists
When asked about Iran's nuclear capacity, Vance answers that the country's ban on having nuclear weapons, both now and in the future, is the top “target” US President Donald Trump.
He adds that Trump was involved in the talks and he spoke to the president sometime by “half of” or “rates times” during the negotiations.
We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method to understand that this is our final and best offer. We will see if Iranians accept it”, he adds before wrapping up his comments.
