A F-15E fighter jet The US Air Force crashed last night in southern Iran, triggering an emergency search and rescue operation for a missing crew member.
According to the BBC, the F-15E pilot was saved, but a weapons systems officer has not yet been found, Klankosova broadcast.tv.
The aircraft, designed for long-term missions and attacks on land targets, has two crews, uses radar to track the ground and has an estimated $100m cost.
Meanwhile, Iran has claimed to have crashed another American plane over the Persian Gulf, while American media report that an A-10 Windog, sent on a search and rescue mission for the first plane, was attacked.
