Video footage showed students leaving school as ambulances and police vehicles arrived at the scene.
According to global media reports, an adolescent opened fire at a high school in Turkey's southeastern province of Sanliurfa on Tuesday, wounding at least 16 people, including students and teachers, before killing himself, Governor Hasan Sildak said.
The attacker, a 19-year-old former student, used a hunting rifle in the Siverek district attack, writes Telegraph, broadcast Periscopi.
The wounded were taken to the hospital, while five of them were later transferred to the Sanliurfas city centres for further treatment, Sildak said.
He later told the broadcaster NTV that the attacker opened fire indiscriminately, starting in the school yard before entering the building.
He shot himself as police tried to arrest him, Sildak added.
Sildak said the attacker had no previous criminal precedents and that the school was previously classified as safe from the police.
The Interior Ministry said 10 of the injured were students, four were teachers, one was a police officer and another a student at the school cafeteria.
