Democratic League of Kosovo MP Armend Zemaj has stated that the lack of will by the Vetevendosje Movement is making it difficult to elect the president, warning that the country could move towards the elections unless consensus is reached.

Zemaj in an interview for Online Economy said political will is missing from the Vetevendosje Movement for electing a president.

If there is no solution to the deadline that has already been given, and the days are just being spent, we are closer to elections than a visible solution. Because in the absence of the majority party's will, there seems to be no interest in having a president at this stage, or a president as requested and required under the Constitution, which is a consensual president and who represents all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo”, Zemaj said.

The MP said the LDK does not support party candidates and that such a thing brings Kosovo undesirable system.

“If there is insistence on party president, we have rejected him and said that the Democratic League of Kosovo does not want to give Kosovo a president who is party, above all three positions that we would then pass into an undesirable system for our Republic”, he said.

Zemaj said the LDK has contributed sufficiently to this process, calling on LVV to offer a solution.

“The LDK has given all of its potential for this process: the first with meetings, consultations, above all with ideas, but also with proposals if there are classic political agreements. No other option we do not have, but we call the parliamentary majority to offer a solution and offer consensus on choosing the country's president”, he said.

The Constitutional Court published the full conviction regarding Osman's decree issued on March 6th, ruling that if within 34 days, from March 25th, when the act of prejudice has entered into force, MPs do not elect the president, the Parliament is distributed.

According to the decision, after the distribution '%ex transitione '% (included automatically under the Constitution) of the legislature, Kosovo must hold new elections within 45 days.

In its act, the Constitution said Kosovo's Assembly is distributed in three cases: if within 60 days the president's appointment date does not form the Government, if 2/3 of all MPs vote on the distribution of the Assembly, and if within 60 days of the start of the election procedure, the president of Kosovo is not elected.

The court took on the specific context of the constitutional circumstances of the constitution on February 11, 2026, estimated that the Assembly did not have sixty days available, in which the period should be completed the procedure for electing President” was said in the Constitutional decision.

According to the Constitutional Court, the procedure for electing the president, “that cannot last more than 60 days”, should end “not later than 30 days before the end of the current president's mandate”.

“These two deadlines are interconnected, so that the procedure must be carried out within the 60-day limit and end with the president's election no later than 30 days before the end of the current president's mandate”, it was said in the decision.
