Iranian hacker campaigns targeting equipment used in some critical sectors of US infrastructure are escalating in response to tensions, US cyber security agencies, law enforcement and intelligence said Tuesday.
The hackers are aiming at programmable logic controllers (PLC) and the interface of SCADA systems that are publicly exposed, according to an official announcement.
These devices are used to interact or control systems and devices related to critical infrastructure.
According to the report, hackers are aiming to cause divisive <x0 effects within the United States”. “On several occasions, this event has resulted in operational disruptions and financial losses. ”
The warning comes at a time when President Donald Trump warned that “an entire civilization will die tonight” if Iran fails to reach an agreement with the US, while Iran said it would attack other infrastructure targets in neighbouring Gulf countries.
In some cases, hackers have been interacting with data files in systems to change the information shown, as well as extracting data from equipment projects, according to the announcement.
Hakim operations have targeted unnamed infrastructure organisations critical in government services and facilities, water and sewage systems, as well as the energy sector. The announcement was issued by the FBI, NSA, CISA, EPA, the Department of Energy and the US Cyber Mission National Forces and Cyber Command Service. /A2 CNN
