Chinese ship '%can' American blockade, passes Hormuz China offers a 4-point peace plan

Chinese tankers seriously challenged the US initiative targeting Iranian naval traffic. “Rich Starry” travelled through the night and emerged from the Hormuz Strait in the early hours of Tuesday, without apparently facing any obstacle along its route. Previously known as the “Full Star”, this ship is subject to American sanctions. It figures on the list of the Office for Foreign Asset Control near the US Treasury Department as related to Iran and has been sanctioned over its involvement in the transport of Iranian products.

Cisterna has been anchored off the coast of the United Arab Emirates in Oman Bay. She returned ten days earlier to the Persian Gulf and had been on hold ever since. News of her passage comes at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping presented a four-point plan for peace and stability in the Middle East to Abu Dhabi's prince, Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The plan includes respecting peaceful co-existence, national sovereignty, rule of international law and co-ordination between development and security.

The focus of the proposal lies in respecting the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf countries, while the need for energy infrastructure and transport routes is equally stressed, especially in terms of Hormuz Strait.

The Chinese plan also highlights promoting international laws and norms, rejecting, amid lines the implementation of a “jungle law” in international relations. /tch/
