British MP Alicia Kearns said “Brussels is finally waking up”, while commenting on the news that the European Union is preparing to cut Serbia's 1.5 billion-euro financing due to concerns on democracy.
“Brussels is finally waking up to the slow death of media freedom and rule of law in Serbia”, she wrote in an X post.
“Actions have consequences, and the protection of press freedom must be non-negotiable on Europe's threshold, and let alone any future membership”, Kearns added.
Serbia faces loss of up to 1.5 billion euros in EU financing, while the European Commission is considering cutting funds due to concerns about democracy and close ties with Russia.
Brussels is finally running up to the slow death of media freedom and the rule of law in Serbia.
Action has concluded, and allegedly waits for free may be non-negotible on Europe.https://t.co/ZThs6x9RP9
