An association of Albanian Muslims is planning to build a large new mosque in Fürstenlandstrasse, St. Glen. The project is still in early stages; official construction applications have not yet been submitted.
Regarding the construction of the mosque, which will cost about 15 million francs, it has been widely reported in the Swiss and Albanian media, writes Albinfo.ch.

The project is being directed by the Islamic Community El-Hidaje, which has run a smaller mosque in St. They've been kidding for years. The association is already actively collecting funds for the large-scale project. According to the Association's representatives' statements, they have generated about three million Swiss francs so far, including those from fundraising events in the region.
In addition to a prayer hall, the planned building will include other uses, such as commercial space and a cafe, which will be open to non-Muslims as well.
Details concerning financing and further deadlines are still open. Initiatives remain publicly reserved, as the project is still in early stages of development.
Meanwhile, in Canton, where the mosque is expected to be built, there have been voices opposing it.
Thus, three SVP cantonal advisers -- Christian Vogel, Sascha Schmidt and Philip Köpppel -- raise critical questions in St. Gallen's connected to the big new mosque, writes Gossau24.ch.
